During the pandemic, I started playing chess, and I quickly became a huge fan of the game. I improved a lot since I started playing and now I consider it one of my main hobbies. Whether you are already familiar with the chess world, you are a newcomer, or you are simply interested in its demographics, here is an overview of what the chess world looks like. The data shown here are updated to March 2023. You can see how many players are affiliated with the International Chess Federation, more commonly known as FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs). Notice that I decided to include inactive players as well in the demographics.
